Nepal Earthquake – April 25, 2015 – NECO Home Update

(UPDATED, as of May 4, 2015) Officially over 7,000 have been killed, 15,000 have been injured, from a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday, April 25th, 2015.

Many in the country have no choice but to seek shelter outside their homes. Most buildings are either destroyed or unsafe to enter. Vast tent cities have sprung up in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, for those displaced or afraid to return to their homes as strong aftershocks continue.

NECO Home orphanage is badly damaged and uninhabitable, but fortunately all our children as well as our dedicated staff are alive. Reconstruction assessments are currently under way by engineers and masons to determine repairs and costs.

Ironically, the most recent project that NECO had undertaken was to build a dairy farm that could hold up to 12 cows. Now that dairy farm, with no heat or electricity, is where everyone connected to the NECO is living at the moment.
